THE HOURS BEFORE WE WAKE

It’s 2091: we are humans 2.0, we’re never off the grid and we have the technology to control our dreams. But sometimes we eat cereal for every meal of the day and finding love is still a complete nightmare.

Perpetual beta-male, Ian, feels anonymous and forgettable – even the face recognition software at work has no idea who he is. By night, with the aid of Cognetix, his recurring dream of becoming a hero and finally attracting his supervisor’s affections feels almost like a reality. But by day he can’t quite get his Victoria sponges to rise properly and his only friend is Louise, the digital voice of his home computer system.

All that changes when he meets a headstrong girl, who drags him head-first into a conspiracy behind a world he has never questioned. We follow the pair on a quest to find the truth about the disappearance o

f her father, and what a seemingly harmless pill can really do to your brain.

The Hours Before We Wake is a comedy about dreaming, loss and not letting anyone inside your head. Tremolo Theatre blend original music and intricate sound design with dark humour to create this new show. After work-in-progress performances at Prototype at the Tobacco Factory and Mayfest, ‘The Hours Before We Wake’ comes to the new Wardrobe Theatre.

Tremolo is a Bristol based collaborative theatre company, exploring the interface between live sound and theatre. Tremolo Theatre are inspired by the ideas at the edge of human understanding.

"The combination of sound and movement executed with absolute precision by the cast means that The Hours Before We Wake is not only an entertaining evening out, but also an object lesson in how few physical resources are needed to utterly suspend an audience’s disbelief. It should serve as an inspiration to theatre makers with limited budgets everywhere "
